About Director Kimberly Roney
Kimberly attended James Madison University, completing a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Music Industry. She has played the piano for 22 years and has shared a love of music through teaching piano for 11 years. She currently has over 30 students in her private piano studio in West Asheville, and has a guilty pleasure of asking video game fans, “Is it just me, or does the second Super Mario theme sound like a sample of the bass line from Calypso Frelimo by Miles Davis?” Kimberly enjoys performing when she has the time. You may have seen her play keys with Pilgrim here in Asheville, or you may have heard her perform on World Cafe with Rodriguez. She is excited to begin the summer music camp at the Orange Peel, and is looking forward to showcasing young musicians at one of our country’s most adored venues!
About Assistant Director Emily Easterly
Music teacher and singer/songwriter Emily Easterly first got serious about being a musician when she discovered the Beatles at age 13. Writing and recording on a 4- track tape machine in her bedroom was the most important of activities at the time. She has since self- released four albums of her own material (take a listen at www.emilyeasterly.com) and has toured and played all over the US. Allmusic.com called her work “a mix of D.I.Y. attitude, guitar proficiency, and songwriting skills modeled after Cat Power and Exile in Guyville-era Liz Phair.” Emily attended the University of Miami, Frost School of Music and received a BA in guitar performance. She has been teaching guitar lessons for the past nine years in all the cities she has lived including Miami, FL, Richmond, VA New York, NY and now Asheville, NC!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students must bring their instrument–keyboard or guitar. We will consider bass and drums on a case-by-case basis.
